You will find people using smilies in public forums, blogs, bulletin board, email messages, online chat, etc. They are commonly referred to as emoticons. If you want a huge variety of emoticons, you can download smileys here.

You will find people using smilies in public forums, blogs, bulletin board, email messages, online chat, etc. Smilies are very important for the web users because if there wasn’t any smilies then the communication between two people online can be interpreted in a different way. When people communicate online, they type text and the same appears on the screen of the user as well as the recipient.

The communication between people in this is very different from communicating face to face. When you talk to someone directly you are able to see the body language and the facial expression of the speaker. Hence, it becomes easier for you to understand what the speaking is trying to convey. On the other hand, when you convey a message to someone through email or online chat then you are not able to see the facial expressions as well as the body language of the speaker.

All you see are the typed words. This may lead to misunderstanding and hence the communication will not be successful. However, with the use of smilies you can make the recipient understand your message in a better way.

Smilies can be in the form of text or in the form of images. Usually, you will find that in the Instant Messengers and forums smilies are usually in the form of images. On the other hand, when you write emails you can add smilies in the form of text like which means a smile. In this text, you see a colon, a hyphen and a bracket which area symbols of eyes, nose and mouth respectively. Previously, the smilies were not as many as it is now. Nowadays, you can download smileys very easily online.

At present, smilies are increasing in numbers so as to allow the web users take the advantages of the new and improved smilies. Needless to say, there is a huge demand for smilies among the web users as they are becoming more and more popular among the people. If you think that only the youngsters like to use smilies then you are mistaken because the youngsters as well as the adults make use of smilies.

Smilies have emerged as a replacement for facial expressions and body language in the recent years. The aim of creating and using smilies is to remove the misinterpretation of the messages that are in the form of simple text only.

Let’s look at an example. When you are chatting with someone in a chat room, you call that person “stupid” jokingly. The recipient of this message may misinterpret your message in a different way and he or she may think that you are being impolite. However, if you add a smiley to the same message then the recipient will know that you were just kidding with him or her. There is a great selection of World Cup smileys for download here.

I thought it might be good to talk about a few of my likes and dislikes about email advertising.I have picked up a few good pointers over the years.Even though a lot of these may be known or said before they are worth repeating.

After all the whole idea is get people to read your emails( not DELETE) in the hope that they will sign up or buy whatever you are promoting.

1)One of the first things you are going to want to do is make sure you don’t go across in your email more than 65 characters a line. There are 2 reasons for this and the first is what is known as “eye fatigue”.What this means is if the person reading has to go across too far to the right the reader loses interest. The second reason is some email clients have what is called line wrapping which means your message will come out all garbled if it is over 65 characters.

2)Next thing is avoid using all capitals. When a person uses all capitals on the internet it is considered shouting and nobody likes shouting all the time.Gilbert Godfrey shouts all the time and at first it is funny but then you come to expect it and eventually he’s not funny anymore. So be creative. The odd CAPITALIZED word can add variety however, and can make a product or benefit stand out in your email.

3)The next thing is one of my personal pet peeves.

I can’t stand emails that are full of bad grammar.Bad spelling doesn’t hurt your professional image it flat out DESTROYS it.It makes me think the guy on the other end can’t be bothered to proof read his emails.

4)The next thing you are going to want to do on a regular basis is put your link to your site in your email no less than 3 times. You know the old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”.Chances are your website has all the interesting pictures or videos you’ll need to capture your prospect’s interest so make that the goal.Space them out evenly through your email and make sure they work by sending yourself one of your emails. Then CLICK on it to see if it works.I can’t tell you how many people have sent me links that don’t work.

5)For goodness sake don’t be long winded.A little info..then your link..a little more info..then your link..well you get it.What I want to know is who are these people who babble on and on.yama yama.. yama.. bla.. bla..little do they know is I went to the kitchen to get a fork so I can stab MYSELF in th EYE rather than read anymore.Short and sweet or KISS(keep it simple stupid) is the KEY.

6)The next thing is don’t use uncommon fonts or really loud colors in an attempt to dress up your email.I must confess I used to do this just because I liked the all the fun tools, colors, and smiley’s in my email arsenal. All it did was make me look gimmicky and silly along with my program.Remember you are trying to build trust and integrity on the net.Using Ariel, Times New Roman, or Courier as a font style is professional looking enough.

7)When it comes to your subject line this is where you want to grab them.If you follow the rich jerk’s advice he recommends you can even say something shocking like “YOUR UGLY” or “HEY STUPID” however, one must be careful here.Trial and error here and one’s own personality to make you look unique as compared to all those other emails will get people opening your emails.I do confess that I have clicked on “HEY UGLY” just out of curiosity.I don’t know if I want to be in business with someone that obnoxious though.I guess it depends on whether you are building long term relationships or just looking for the fast sale.

8)You may want to tell the odd clean joke in your emails.Especially if you are loading then into an auto responder. You’ll find people will look forward to your emails just because they can get a chuckle out of them.

Bingo is today registered under the Bingo Act of 1996 and declared a recreational activity. You can play this game online today, thanks to the Internet, which further enhances its reach and popularity not only in USA and Europe but also all over the world. This takes our attention to the quality of the Bingo online sites. In order to make the best of it, you would need to understand the features offered and know how to use them.

If you were one among the people who have newly been bitten by the Bingo Club, you would need to know the following few facts about the best features of the online Bingo sites.

1. Games hosted

(i)The first thing you should worry about is the quality of the game(s) hosted on the online site. Hence, check out what other games, besides Bingo it offers. Many sites would automatically sign you as a member in their casino sister concerns, which is just as good if you like to gamble once in a while. You will have a good variety of Bingo and non-Bingo games
(ii)The cost of the cards should not usually exceed USD $0.5. The average cost would stay within $0.25 per card. Special cards may cost higher.
(iii)	The games would have weekly/monthly tournaments with high winning prizes
(iv)	There would be bonus offers and credits from time to time as promotionals

2. Excellent promotionals

(i)	Anything between 10-25 percent bonus on the initial monetary deposit as bonus
(ii)	Bonus of cash or percentage (of the amount deposited by the introduced person) for every person referred to the site

3. Winning & Prizes

(i)	Hourly/daily progressive prizes/jackpots that make the game exceptionally exciting
(ii)	Weekly/monthly tournaments with excellent pay offs
(iii)	Winning chat games, which could be as exciting as any game of Bingo

4. Technical software, chat and discussions forums

(i)A good site would have excellent help on the site including the best software to make the game as smooth as can be
(ii)Auto-daub, catch-up and auto-play features
(iii)	Changing colors of the cards when you are approaching Bingo
(iv)Variety of fonts, color and sounds to make your chatting a great experience
(v)Ample choices of chat rooms
(vi)Zoom in and out features
(vii)Software that allows multiple games played simultaneously
(viii)Inclusion of smileys in the chat messages
(ix)Fast loading chat windows
(x)Excellent hosting of discussion forums

This is in short the most popular features that you would encounter in a typical good Bingo online site. Depending on each individual site, they might be having some features added or less that what is described above. However, you will notice that the leaders in the game would always keep themselves a good step or two ahead on the technology and the offers aspect, ensuring that they always offer the best there is available at any particular time.

The graphics, the navigation, the games everything would be smooth and user friendly making the experience of the player addictive.

Recent news stories have reported a phenomenon that most knew existed: there is a gap in the use of text messaging between younger and older cell phone owners. Reports vary but indications are those 12 to 30 years of age account for 80% of text messaging usage.

Because of the instantaneous nature of texting and the tiny keypads and screens on a cell phone, an entire language has developed around text messaging. For those cell phone owners who do not make use of text messaging, the intricacies of this language can make messages almost incomprehensible. This language is abbreviated for speed and ease of use. It is a rather phonetic language where single letters or numbers may stand for entire words, such as “Y” for “why” or “8″ for “ate”. Vowels may be omitted to further reduce keystrokes, such as “btwn” for “between” and capitalization and punctuation are rare. Acronyms are used for phrases and whole sentences such as “ADBB” for “all done, bye, bye”. Symbols are also common in text messaging language.

Non-verbal communication such as facial expression and tone of voice have been said to express more meaning than words themselves in a spoken message. In any form of written communication this is lacking. This is particularly true in text messaging. Knowing whether the phrase “thts gr8t” (that’s great), is expressing something positive or sarcastic is important when communicating. Texting allows the user to create “emoticons” or “smileys” to add the tone to a comment. For instance, “thts gr8t ” would give the statement a positive meaning while typing “THTS GR8T” would indicate a shout for excitement.

Because of the uniqueness of the communication, those who do not make use of messaging on their cell phone are at a loss then for understanding or communicating in this texting language: the language of their children, grandchildren, younger co-workers, and many others. Certainly knowing the language of those with whom there is a need to communicate is a tremendous advantage.

Text messaging with a cell phone can offer other advantages that non-users might want to consider as well. Text messaging is less expensive than talk time and allows the user to communicate basic messages without incurring unnecessary expense. Text messaging can also be a great way of remaining accessible without creating a disturbance. Obviously, when taking a cell phone call in a meeting or in a crowded area, all those nearby are disrupted as the call is answered and conversation ensues. With text messaging others are seldom aware that an interruption has even occurred. One other distinct advantage of text messaging over voice calling can be the ease of communicating via cell phone with a person who has hearing impairment.

There are a number of ways to dive into the world of cell phone texting. One method used by many parents is to consult a child who is a habitual user of text messaging. However, for those on their own in the endeavor there are many resources to consult. Online, netlingo.com and webopedia.com provide references to assist cell phone owners in learning the vocabulary of text messaging. Another site, lingo2word.com offers a translator to assist cell phone owners in composing a text message or to translate a text message they receive into plain English. Other sites can assist with texting in other languages such as Transclick.com which, for a fee, will translate text messages in real time. A visit to the local bookstore or to Amazon.com will also reveal a number of reference books that can be invaluable for beginners.

Certainly, use of text messaging can be a challenge for those who are unaccustomed to what at first glance appears to be a more impersonal method of communication or for whom it may merely be a foreign or unnecessary concept. However, learning and using text messaging can certainly open the doors of communication to a broader audience just as learning any second language.

In this day and age where email usage is so prevalent, sometimes people get lazy and forget to construct the best message they can. Email can be used in business as well as for personal use. However, with email handling so much communication, people take advantage of it and fail to put a coherent thought together. The following are some tips that will help you build a polite email.

For starters, be concise. In this arena, less means more. Expert say any message of more than 100 lines is considered long and will probably not be read. Some companies are taxed for every second of internet connection, so they will not be happy to accept messages that are too long.

Be careful with attachment. Don’t use it to send a short message. Use it to augment your message or to send work or another project. Attachments can be tricky so be sure to use them wisely. It’s also a good idea to let the party know what the attachment is for. Many people are wary of attachments as they have been known to contain viruses. Some business have a firewall set up to intercept attachments so depending on the type it is, it may not even reach its destination.

Know who you are sending the email to. You need to pay close attention when you address an email to multiple recipients. First, be sure that everyone on the list needs the information that you are sending. If there are people that don’t need the message or if it doesn’t apply, then you may have to deal with some angry people. No one wants their inbox cluttered with junk mail. Also be sure that the addresses are current. Take the time to check the addresses every so often and make necessary updates.

Be careful what you write. Again, since email use is so widespread, it’s easy to become very familiar with the message. However, not everyone appreciates such informal notes. If you are not addressing a person you know, then don’t use short phrases. It may also seem unprofessional to use emoticons, so avoid them. Once you construct your email run a spellcheck to make sure everything is correct. Emails with a lot of mistakes don’t look good and make a bad impression.

Formatting problems. Not all email programs are created equal. With this being the case, stick to the easiest format available. Email is for communication, not a design exercise. Simplicity is usually the best way to go.

Starting and finishing. Be sure to start your message with a proper opening. Many times people jump right into the body of the email. It looks better to have a simple opening such as ‘Dear’ or ‘Hello’. Both are appropriate. You can choose to end with ‘Sincerely’ or if you want something more informal, go with ‘All the best’ or ‘Yours truly’.

The Internet has made it much easier for us to make friends all over the world as well as keep in touch with loved ones who live far away. With the ease of emails, message boards, chat rooms, and instant messaging, we are able to carry on lively conversations on just about any subject you can think of.

Of course, the written word can sometimes be ambiguous when it comes to expressing the feelings behind the words. A great tool that helps put our words into perspective are the happy little smiling faces that so many of use in our messages: the emoticons.

Configured so that they can be inserted into the text of everything from a post on a message board to an instant message conversation, emoticons are often used to make the intent of our words a little clearer. The basic emoticon, known as a smiley, is a way of letting the person you are communicating with that the remark you just typed is meant in a friendly way. Resembling the happy face that was so popular during the 1970’s, the most popular style of emoticons are round, often yellow in color, and have eyes and a mouth that are used to convey all sorts of emotions.

There are emoticons that can cover just about any feeling or emotion you want to express. As an example, surprise or shock is often indicated by an emoticon that displays wide-open eyes and a round mouth. Anger may be conveyed by an emoticon that is red rather than yellow, and features a grimace. Love or cordial feelings are often expressed by the use of an emoticon that features a beating red heart. There are even emoticons that can convey boredom, excitement, wild laughter, and a sly wink.

Using emoticons is very easy. Just about every message board and text messaging service provides the user with basic information about how to insert emoticons into communications. Typically, it is a matter of selecting the emoticon from a listing, using the computer mouse. Many systems also allow key sequences from the keyboard to register as emoticons as well. If you are particularly savvy and know how to create the emoticon you want by using your keyboard, you can forego pulling up the emoticon menu and using the mouse to make your selection.

In addition to being informational, emoticons are a way to add a touch of whimsy to any of your electronic communications. Most of us do use these types of communications in an informal manner, so the emoticons will lend themselves well to this type of usage. Opening up an email and seeing a cute remark followed by a line of laughing emoticons can bring a smile to our lips with ease.

Who doesn’t like to receive an emoticon conveyed electronic kiss from someone we are romantically interested in? Between the real service of helping to make our written communications clearer to the recipient, and the sheer fun that emoticons bring to our emails and instant messages, they are definitely now part of our culture.

A few months back, the default avatar went from being a silhouette of a head to the smiley face. Apparently, the smiley face was the original default avatar before the silhouette. I am curious to know…Why did the Yahoo! team switch from the smiley faces to the silhouette of a head back then, and why did they switch it back to the smiley faces a few months back? Is there any reason for the changes?

YA is a bit of a wimp website. They went to the silhouettes when people complained about the plain Smiley Faces. Then they went back, when the new profile system was introduced, because surprise, everyone was complaining about the silhouettes. There is no pleasing everyone, but like a politician, Yahoo tilts with the breeze.
